  17. Workstation Software For InterConnections' TES To Be Bundled For Free

  19.      BELLEVUE, WA, April 19, 1993 -- InterConnections, Inc., a develop-
  20.  
  21. er of connectivity software, announced today that the workstation soft-
  22.  
  23. ware required to operate its Terminal Emulation Services (TES) package
  24.  
  25. will be bundled with the terminal emulator programs of three suppliers.
  26.  
  27.      The TES "Client Software" will be added to the terminal emulators
  28.  
  29. at no charge to the customer.
  30.  
  31.      TES is the first software program to provide a seamless native IPX
  32.  
  33. transport protocol to the DEC VAX for both Windows and DOS terminal
  34.  
  35. emulators, eliminating the need for additional terminals or cabling for
  36.  
  37. workstations.  When used with the terminal emulator, TES allows Novell
  38.  
  39. NetWare users to log in to the VAX and run VMS applications.
  40.  
  41.      TES is comprised of two components -- the Host Software, a driver
  42.  
  43. on the VAX that coordinates TES communications between the LAN and VMS;
  44.  
  45. and the Client Software, a terminate and stay resident (TSR) program on
  46.  
  47. the LAN workstation that provides a virtual connection to the VAX.

  59. Agreements Reached With Leading Terminal Emulator Suppliers

  61.      By offering the TES Client Software to users through terminal emu-
  62.  
  63. lator bundling agreements, the company hopes to increase demand for TES
  64.  
  65. and the other two members of its Leverage for NetWare product line.
  66.  
  67.      The three terminal emulator suppliers are Persoft, Madison, WI,
  68.  
  69. which provides a product known as SmarTerm; KEA Systems, Burnaby,
  70.  
  71. British Columbia, developer of KEAterm 340; and Diversified Computer
  72.  
  73. Systems (DCS), Boulder, CO, which offers the EM320 terminal emulator.
  74.  
  75.      All three companies have signed letters of intent with
  76.  
  77. InterConnections and will make TES Client Software available with their
  78.  
  79. own software by mid-year.  Persoft and KEA Systems will integrate TES
  80.  
  81. Client Software into their terminal emulator software; while DCS is
  82.  
  83. currently undecided whether to integrate or simply offer the TES Client
  84.  
  85. Software on a separate diskette.

  87.      With the TES Client Software, networks using these terminal
  88.  
  89. emulators will be "TES ready."  To implement TES on a network, end-
  90.  
  91. users can simply purchase the TES Host Software from InterConnections
  92.  
  93. and load it on to their VAX.

  95.      In addition to the three companies that have already agreed to
  96.  
  97. join the TES Partner Program and add the Client Software to their
  98.  
  99. terminal emulators, InterConnections is working with other firms to
  100.  
  101. make similar arrangements.

  104. Bundling Agreements Make It Easier For Users To Acquire TES

  106.      "These agreements will make it more convenient and faster for the
  107.  
  108. user to add TES to their networks," said Sharon Nagy, Leverage for
  109.  
  110. NetWare product manager for InterConnections.

  120.      "TES is the de-facto industry standard for Windows and DOS
  121.  
  122. terminal emulators to connect NetWare LANs to VMS applications," Nagy
  123.  
  124. said.  "TES is the first product on the market to address this
  125.  
  126. connectivity issue, and the agreements we are announcing are part of a
  127.  
  128. strategy to maintain its position as the most widely used."

  130.      TES is a member of InterConnection's Leverage for NetWare software
  131.  
  132. product line, which also includes NetWare-VMS connectivity for file
  133.  
  134. sharing and network printing.  InterConnections' File Sharing Services
  135.  
  136. and Network Print Services are installed on the VAX, as is the TES
  137.  
  138. Host Software, so no Client Software is required with these products.
